Jennifer Lawrence Says Mentioning Donald Trump Would ‘Add Fuel to a Fire’ Tearing the Nation Apart
Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she believes it's no longer suitable to speak out against the Trump administration, fearing it could worsen unhelpful debate and increase separation across the United States.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Explains Lawrence
During a discussion, the Oscar winner reflected, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I believed I was moving hastily in a panicked state. But as we’ve learned, over multiple voting cycles, Hollywood stars have no real impact whatsoever on electoral choices.”
Lawrence added, “So then what am I doing? I’m just sharing my opinion on an issue that’s going to worsen tensions dividing the nation apart.”
Political Evolution
Lawrence has spoken candidly about voting for both Republican and Democratic contenders throughout her life. Brought up by conservative Republicans in her home state, she voted for John McCain in the 2008 election prior to switching to the left-leaning politics and explaining she recognized during the Obama era that backing conservatives was undermining her personal freedoms as a female citizen.
Previous Comments
Several years ago, she commented that a Trump victory could represent “a disaster” and endorsed Joe Biden in the 2020 election. In the latest campaign, she gave her endorsement to the Democratic nominee, “as I feel she’s a strong contender and I am confident that she will do whatever she can to protect women’s health rights.”
Hollywood’s Stance
Jennifer Lawrence was aligned with many in the entertainment industry in her disapproval of Trump as a returning figure, but the limited influence stars have over the public choices was highlighted by Trump’s victory.
“The second term appears changed,” commented the actress regarding Trump’s presidency. “Because he stated his intentions. We understood his record for his first term. He was transparent. And voters made that decision.”
New Release
Lawrence is currently promoting Die, My Love, the filmmaker’s movie in which she portrays a young mom who faces challenges with her emotional state in a remote area. Speaking at a press conference for the film in the film festival, Lawrence spoke about the situation in the Middle East: “I feel fear. It’s mortifying. What’s happening is no less than a genocide and it’s terrible.”
Broader Concerns
The actress elaborated by saying that she was disheartened by “the hostility in the discussions of the political landscape currently and how that is going to be accepted to the children now. It’s going to be typical to them that leaders are untruthful.”
Lawrence attempted to refocus anger about the situation to policymakers rather than actors and artists. “Stay focused on the people in charge,” she advised, seen by observers as a reference to the then-recent pledge supported by numerous entertainment industry figures to boycott Israeli film institutions.
Relatable Experiences
The actor, who won an Oscar at a young age for her role in her breakout movie, is generating Oscar buzz for her work in her latest project. While Ramsay has denied the story being interpreted as one of maternal mental health issues and psychosis, she revealed that she connected with parts of her role’s experience after the arrival of her second son, not long after filming concluded.
“It was fear about my child,” she explained, “imagining every negative outcome, and then second-guessing everything that I was trying. I was already in therapy, but I began using a treatment called that medicine and I used it for 14 days and it was effective.”
Professional Experiences
Jennifer Lawrence also discussed of the empowering aspect of shooting revealing sequences in the film while she was expecting and unable to exercise.
“It’s refreshing,” she said, regarding the need to abandon insecurities. “Honestly, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, What technically are the differences between my work and that profession? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
