Spurs Boss Thomas Frank Calls Vicario Critics 'Not Genuine Supporters'

The Cottagers Start Strong to Beat Tottenham and Increase Pressure on the Manager

Tottenham Hotspur fans who jeered keeper Vicario were told afterwards "those individuals can't be real Tottenham fans" by boss Thomas Frank.

Tottenham let in two goals in the first initial moments to lose 2-1 to Fulham, registering their tenth top-flight at home loss of 2025.

But the main topic of discussion was the visitors' second score when the keeper gave away possession well beyond his box.

The goalkeeper came out to handle a high pass and took the ball towards the touchline.

But, rather than booting it out of play, the Italy international turned and tried to clear away, but slipped as the ball skimmed off Wilson and was collected by King.

King passed the ball off to Welsh midfield player Harry Wilson, who curled a shot into the net from the touchline recorded at thirty-six point six yards.

Moments later when the ball came to Vicario again, some Spurs fans booed him.

Spurs were jeered off at the interval, with the club 2-0 down, and once more at the final whistle.

One of those booing episodes truly angered Frank.

"It came to my attention a few of our supporters apparently jeered the incident and booed following, which, in my view is completely unjustifiable," the Dane stated regarding the supporters' response to his shot-stopper.

"[They] can't be real Spurs fans that do that. Fair enough jeering after the game, fine, but when we are in play, we are supporting one another, we are with each other moving ahead."

Tete had given the visitors a early lead prior to Harry Wilson's strike – with Kudus scoring for Tottenham in an better second period performance.

Former Premier League keeper Joe Hart remarked that the next score was "totally preventable".

"I certainly understand the supporters' frustration," the ex-keeper continued. "I know the part the keeper is playing. He's a great squad member, he is a real figure in the dressing room but in the end you are going to be judged by your decisions.

"The keeper was deeply implicated in what ended up to be the winning score."

'It is Part of Football, I Can Handle It'

Thomas Frank Defended His Keeper Guglielmo Vicario After the Game

Italian national team the keeper is in his 3rd campaign with Tottenham.

He stated after the match that he had to accept the feedback.

"The second goal was a error of mine, I take responsibility for it," he commented.

"The intent was to clear the ball far and I just hit the ball in a poor manner. It was an even bigger challenge to climb."

He stated receiving jeers "comes with football".

"I am mature, what can I say?" he continued. "The team cannot be influenced by the circumstances in the stands. The fans have the right to do as they see fit.

"It's on the team to stay more composed, to focus on ourselves. We are lacking in calmness and poise to overturn results. Today is a bad loss and it is hard to take."

'It Shocked Me Nobody Went Back to the Goal Line'

In spite of the keeper's mistake, it was far from an easy score for Harry Wilson to score.

In fact it was the second most distant Premier League goal of the campaign – following Adams' forty-three point three metre strike for Bournemouth against the Black Cats, which incidentally too occurred on the same day.

The goalscorer stated he was "somewhat taken aback" that he still had an open goal to target.

Ten moments elapsed between the keeper coming out of his box and the midfielder striking – which was five seconds following the clearance.

"It seemed to me like the goalkeeper was out of the area for a long time," he said.

"I was surprised not one of the defenders went back to the goal line. When none of them defended the net, my eyes sparked somewhat.

"Udogie fell too, which allowed me a little extra opportunity. After that it was solely about attempting to make the correct contact and place it on target. I felt a good feeling, the moment it came off my boot, that it was on the right line."

'During in a Poor Run, Everything Seems to Go Against You'

Jeering While We Are Still in Play Is Totally Unacceptable - Frank

Although Vicario's error dominated coverage, this was an overall poor day for Tottenham to continue their home ground woes.

This was their 10th home defeat of 2025 in the Premier League, a joint club record matching nineteen ninety-four and two thousand and three.

They still have home games against the manager's old side the Bees and title holders Liverpool to play prior to the end of the year.

Just a single of those victories have occurred after Frank took over from his predecessor in the off-season.

"When you're behind 2-0 after six minutes, there is a mountain to overcome," stated the boss.

"During in a poor run, all aspects appears to work against you too – the opening was a deflected shot, the next is a mistake from Vic.

"The outcome puts us in a position where we have lost another game. Every game has a unique narrative, this game we were defeated in the early stages.

"We simply need to continue striving. The second half was significantly improved and with luck an aspect we can use to develop."

Tottenham have lost 4 consecutive home capital clashes for the first time in the top division.

And they are averaging nine point five shots and 3.2 shots on target per game in the division – their lowest averages on file in a single season (dating back to 2003-04).

Ex- Fulham midfield player Danny Murphy stated that the manager has to ride the storm.

"He's got accept the stick," Murphy remarked. "He has accepted a high profile role at a major team with enormous anticipation. There is pressure and responsibility that accompanies that.

"The performances at their stadium have been poor and they have to improve {quickly|
