Suspected Harasser Questioned: 'Yet What If I Might Be Madeleine?'
A female indicted with stalking Kate McCann reportedly recorded her a voicemail message which asked: "imagine I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, 24, who witnesses stated has consistently asserted she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are facing charges indicted with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February the current year.
On Monday, the court heard communication data and data retrieved from phones documented Ms Wandelt repeatedly requesting Madeleine's mother for a DNA test over 2023 and 2024.
Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - at the age of three during a vacation in Portugal - is considered the most publicized child disappearance cases and is still unresolved.
'I Do Not Need Money'
Another phone message, shared in court, recorded Ms Wandelt saying: "I realize I'm fat and plain like Madeleine had been, but I feel what I know."
While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's voicemail said: "Imagine there is a tiny probability that I am Madeleine? What happens next? Isn't that significant for you?"
"I do not need money, I maintain a life here in Poland, I only wish to know," she added.
The tribunal was advised that through emails, mobile messages and communications, Ms Wandelt demanded a biological test, forwarded early photographs to her phone in a effort to show a resemblance to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and stated to have "recollections" from a early life with the McCanns.
Robert Jones, an investigator with Leicestershire Police who collated the evidence, advised the court there "showed no any replies" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt furthermore communicated with close associates of the McCanns, according to the call data.
On that date, Mr McCann picked up a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "incorrect contact information."
That day Ms Wandelt recorded a voicemail on Mrs McCann's recording saying "I won't give up and I plan to establish my position."
The court was informed Mrs Spragg established a relationship online with Ms Wandelt prior to joining her on a visit to the McCanns' home in the county in December 2024.
Communication data demonstrated Mrs Spragg had contacted through communication app to Mrs McCann to say the press had characterized Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she ought to be treated respectfully in the months before the visit to Rothley, the county, in last December.
The court learned correspondence between the two accused, in last November, considering endeavoring to acquire Mrs McCann's genetic material from her garbage or from silverware at a dining venue.
"We have to make a stand," the co-defendant informed Ms Wandelt.
On the occasion of the trip to their residence, the defendant sent a text which stated: "We are sat outside the McCanns' house with our headlights off resembling investigators. I had hoped to achieve this with Peter Andrew I didn't imagine I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."
The case proceeds.
